Swedish Massage
Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to relax the body. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks It has also been shown to be helpful in individuals with poor circulation.

Deep Tissue
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots (also known as “adhesions.”) Deep Tissue Massage is used for aches and pain and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, and leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.
